Why it flashes red: The buffer has an overload cutoff. Push down too hard and it flashes red and stops turning rather than forcing the pad against a fingertip. That is deliberate. Lift it away, power it off and back on, and it resets. Let the pad do the work and it will not trip.
Choosing a pad: The grits are color-coded by stage, running from orange at 0 to 3 months up to blue at 12 months and older.
